This blog entry was gleaned from TweakXP.com  Forums, a Featured Community Web site.

You can find the results of a chkdsk session by going to Event Viewer, highlighting Applications, and scrolling down the list looking for Winlogon.

I followed the suggested direction and I found it.  Look under the "Source" column for "Winlogon" (sort by name).

well, thanks joli for the helpful information, weird that microsoft never include this in their help content, for those whom the steps are not working, the windows files are probably corrupted.

Thanks for the useful information. I clicked around and found the logfile under Applications.

The prob I have is trying to reclaim 30 gigs on a 60 gig drive.

System says 14 gigs free, and "sees" about 44 gigs used????

So how do you view the log for the disk check on drive D? There's no shutdown and reboot so there's no Winlogon.

Prenco> Seems to me like most of your HDD space are accounted for:  14 (free) + 44 (used) = 58, which seems to resemble the 60 GB capacity drive if the filesystem overheads and byte measuring discrepancies are taken into consideration (I think).  It's not 44 - 14 = 30, if that was your calculation.

Seems that Windows only logs check disk activities if it is run at windows startup, not if it is run manually in DOS or by right clicking a drive and clicking properties, followed by clicking on the Tools tab, and then clicking the error checking button.

And the only time that happens is if Windows has detected an error on the disk / partition, or a disk check has been scheduled due to not beeing able to run since it was in use.

Anyone running Vista and not seeing anything useful under Winlogon events should search for Wininit events (Event ID 1001) - I have the results of my disk check there.

Check the application log in the event viewer. It should

be there, under "source" look for winlog. Hope this

helps, that is where I found my chkdsk log
