Red Hat buys JBoss

Red Hat, the company of Red Hat Linux, has acquired JBoss Inc., owners of Hibernate and also the employers of the NHibernate lead developer. Read more about this on the hibernate blog

For some time now the rumour was going around that Oracle wanted to buy JBoss, but apparently this deal never went through. What this means for the .NET activities of JBoss in the long run isn't clear. Red Hat doesn't have a Mono strategy for example.

  • Actually they do have a Mono strategy for Fedora, but no word on RHEL as of yet. I'm assuming they'll wait for feedback from the Fedora community before committing to anything on their flagship product.
