Fun

I've never used Windows Live and I don't think I need it, but it seems fabulous.
Just look at its latest feature:

Browser back behavior (we're really excited about this one in particular :) )
Click on a search result, filters, pages and click the browser back to go back to your previous search results/state

Great, these guys have just invented the browser's Back button! 13 years later or something?
Ever felt like there was a problem with other search web sites?

Question is: do we need ajax to have a working search site?

While I agree, when you simply look at that quote it sounds silly. However, when you look a little deeper, they are talking about combining an AJAX-based site (one with dynamic content displayed and refreshing certain areas of the page without a full post-back) along with the ability to page-back and recover your last search results. Anyway, definitely a harder problem to tackle in that sense.

Of course I understand the context. But do we really need this?

It just sounds like geek games to me. I'm not sure ajax is required from a user point of view for a search site.

The 'back' button doesn't even work on the live.com search site...
