About 2 weeks after that, this problem manifested.

Coincidence? I don't know.

I have a Dell latitude D830, running Vista Ultimate, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M

I almost never game on this computer. For me it seems to happen just anytime- regualr web browsing, working on my resume...blah

Is it really just a dump and install?

no other option?

Reason was that I already had .js files mapped to language 'JavaScript', which was taking prescedence over the above definition ... hence the regexes were not used. I removed the langdef & replaced the language refs as shown below - works beautifully now! Thanks (also to unbad)!!

--langmap=JavaScript:.js

--regex-JavaScript=/([A-Za-z0-9._$]+)[ \t]*[:=][ \t]*\{/\1/,object/

--regex-JavaScript=/([A-Za-z0-9._$()]+)[ \t]*[:=][ \t]*function[ \t]*\(/\1/,function/

--regex-JavaScript=/function[ \t]+([A-Za-z0-9._$]+)[ \t]*\(([^)])\)/\1/,function/

--regex-JavaScript=/([A-Za-z0-9._$]+)[ \t]*[:=][ \t]*\[/\1/,array/

It's still alpha quality, but it seems promising. I can't find any indication that Git# or JGit supports git-svn yet.

@alexandrul: I'm not clear what you're saying. MsysGit works fine for me too on Windows. Git-svn also works fine in MsysGit, but it's quite slow.
