I'm more interested in troubleshooting. Most people fail to find solutions to technical problems because they don't do any reality testing. You need to question your assumptions and verify the value of your variables or verify that a network connection can be made.

I have been solving electronic circuit porblems since vacume tube days (remember them?).Before retireing I did troubleshooting and repair on microprocessor controled boards with up to eight layers. It is really simple to isolate and solve a problem. I kept working moduals of all systems I worked on. By substituting one at a time a problem location could be narrowed down very easily. So many people went astray when they tried to rely on "tricks". They would try this and that and never fix anything. When I would show them how simple it was to isolate problems many a jaw would drop. Also I wouls have sample boards filled with sockets to make it easy to check if IC's were working. You need the correct tools to get the job done. I even made my own emulator that would plug into the processor socket, I could then flip switches to put signals on address, data, and contorl lines.

Nice article.
