Oracle has made another donation to the open source world:
Oracle is pleased to announce the donation of ADF Faces, a rich set of UI components based on the JavaServer Faces specification, to the Apache Software Foundation. This donation will be licensed under the Apache 2.0 license. What this project will be called in the future will soon be determined by the Apache MyFaces community. By supporting JSF and MyFaces Oracle is hoping that more vendors are going to join and strengthen the Faces community.
Why should J2EE / Web application developers care?
This is going to give a boost to the JavaServer Faces technology as well as the MyFaces project. The donated code comes with great functionality out of the box such as: file upload support, client-side validation, partial rendering of a page (AJAX-style), data tables, hierarchical tables, color/date pickers, progress indicators, menu tabs/buttons, internationalization and accessibility. This donation starts with more than 100 components which have already been thoroughly tested and come with high quality documentation.
Synapse: the open source ESB based on the JBI specification has released its first version:
The Synapse incubator announced the first deliverable of the mediation framework for Web Services
Synapse is an open-source ESB engine built completely on the Web Services standards on top of Axis2.
The milestone 1 released includes the following features:
- URL Virtualisation - it will redirect virtual URLs to real URLs based either on WS-Addressing headers or HTTP Proxy headers.
- Content-based routing - you can use XPATH or Regular expressions to re-route requests
- XSLT transforms - you can deploy XSLT files to transform the message
- Simple logging - you can log messages using log4j
You can also deploy simple Java-based mediators that will modify and transform messages

Oracle announces the new SOA suite of products. Some of thisproducts have been available for a while but this announce is intended to consolidate the Oracle SOA vision:
Oracle announced it has begun shipping a set of middleware products for building, deploying, and managing SOAs. The Oracle SOA suite includes what the vendor calls “hot-pluggable” capabilities that enable customers to install Oracle functions alongside of those of other vendors.
The suite consists of components of Oracle Fusion Middleware, and is interoperable with both Oracle and non-Oracle application servers and messaging buses, including IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic and JBoss Application Servers.
The Oracle SOA Suite includes Oracle BPEL Process Manager, a native Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) engine for Web services orchestration; Oracle ESB, which connects existing IT systems and business partners as a set of services; and Oracle Web Services Manager, which provides a console for defining and enforcing Web services policies. Additional features include Oracle Business Rules Engine, Oracle Business Activity Monitoring, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and Oracle JDeveloper 10
During the last two weeks I’ve playing with the first BETA of Commerce Server 2006. Since the last Teched I have been wating to start testing this excited version. There are a lot of features that improve this new version compared with previous editions. My favorite of course is the BizTalk adapters for the different Commerce Server Systems.
- BizTalk Adapter for Catalogs: This adapter interacts with the Catalog subsystem to send-receive Catalog Import, Export and Query messages,
- BizTalk adapter for Orders: This adapter interacts with the Order subsystem to perform queries, receive Order Import or Order Updates messages.
- BizTalk adapter for Profiles: This adapter interacts with the profiles subsystem to send-receive Profiles Import, Update, Delete and Query messages.
- BizTalk adapter for Inventory: This adapter interacts with the inventory subsystem to send-receive Inventory Import, Export and query messages.
During last week we finished the development of the new version of Service Broker Enhancements adapter for BizTalk Server 2006 Beta 2. We are in need of testers for this new version. If you are interested please email me at jrodriguez@twoconnect.com
Last year a was my first year in USA with the consequents changes to my life
During that time I’ve really enjoyed working in an organization like Two Connect with a lot of talented people that have taught me a lot of things. With the New Year I am assuming a new role within Two Connect as Chief Software Architect; I have a lot of things to learn but I confident of the team that we have. It should be really fun!!
