My Speaking Engagements in the Last Two Months
I’ve been so busy lately with the activities around Moesion that I haven’t had time to blog about a couple of great conferences I had the opportunity to speak at in the last two months.
Software Architect Conference, UK (http://www.software-architect.co.uk/)
This conference is becoming one of my favorite events of the year. As always Nick Payne and his team did a remarkable job lining up an all-star group of speakers that covered some of the hottest topics in today’s software industry. The first day of the conference I had the opportunity to speak about NOSQL databases from a .NET developer perspective to a very enthusiastic crowd that packed the room and bombarded me with tons of smart questions. You can find the slide deck below.NOSQL Databases for the .NET DeveloperAfter that, I presented a session about WCF tips and tricks that covered a lot of the lessons we have learned when working on large SOA solutions with customers as well as during the development of SO-Aware.View more presentations from jesusmrvMaking WCF SimpleView more presentations from jesusmrvCloud Computing Expo, CA(http://cloudcomputingexpo.com)
The Cloud Computing Expo is slowly becoming the most important cloud computing conference of the year. This edition hosted speakers from the most important cloud computing vendors in the current market. I had the opportunity of presenting a session about one of my favorite topics these days: Enterprise Mobility. Without exaggerating, I can rate this session as one of my best experiences speaking at a conference. The room was packed and people were literally standing during the entire hour. The audience was completely engaged on the topic and they literally stayed for another 45 mins after the session asking questions and participating in the discussions. I was extremely exhausted that evening after haven’t flown 6 hrs from Miami, presented a Moesion webinar , met partners, customers, etc but the audience made a complete difference in my experience. I would really like to thank to anybody who attended that session. Below you can find the slide deck of that presentation.Enterprise MobilityView more presentations from jesusmrv -

Cloud Wars: Windows Azure vs. Amazon AWS, an IaaS perspective
During our recent Tellago Technology Update about cloud platforms, we received a number of questions related to equivalent capabilities in the Windows Azure and Amazon AWS platforms. That’s right, although Windows Azure is positioned as a Platform as a Service(PaaS), the fact of the matter is that there it includes many Infrastructure as a Service(IaaS) capabilities that are comparable to the Amazon AWS stack.

Fixing .NET configuration hell with TeleSharp: Versioning configuration sections
Story:Bob is an IT Professional (ITPro) responsible for maintaining dozens of enterprise .NET applications. One day, Bob gets a call informing him that one of the applications he is responsible for have stopped working after some changes in the configuration were applied. After hours troubleshooting the application without any positive results, Bob decides to involve the developers who built the new version of the applications. A few hours later, one of the developers finally finds the configuration sections and component that introduced the. Bob wants to roll back the changes in the configuration file but he realizes that he doesn’t have a copy of the previous file and have to asks the developers to give him a copy of the old configuration file. Bob is very frustrated. Bob HATES .NET.

Fixing .NET configuration hell with TeleSharp: Reusing configuration sections
Reusability, or the lack of it, is one of the main problems with the .NET configuration experience. How many times do we find ourselves creating the same configuration sections over and over again as part of our .NET applications? And then when those configuration settings change we have to go change it on 20 different places.

SO-Aware and the Microsoft Technology Stack
Since the launch of SO-Aware, we’ve been pleasantly surprised by the number of times other Microsoft partners in the middleware & integration space have positioned our product together with the rest of Microsoft’s Service Oriented (SO) technology stack when responding to competitive engagements against traditional J2EEvendors such as Oracle, IBM, SoftwareAG or Tibco. Our surprised is not based on any technical reasons (we built SO-Aware to fill the SOA governance gap in the Microsoft stack) but rather on how quickly Microsoft, partners and enterprise customers have embraced SO-Aware as a natural complement to the Microsoft integration and middleware technology stack. Announcing Tellago Technology Updates
Keeping up with software technology is really hard. We are living in very exciting times for the software industry as we are witnessing revolutions in areas such as cloud computing, mobility, NOSQL databases among others that are changing the way we think and implement applications. Together with that excitement comes the challenge for organizations to develop intelligent strategies to embrace those technologies in a way that improves agility and efficiency in their applications. Not embracing these technology movements can result on competitive disadvantages. To cite an example, over the last year we have seen an increasing interest among our Microsoft customer to embrace technologies such as NOSQL database, Android or cloud infrastructures.

Making WCF load testing so simple a caveman can do it
As I mentioned in previous posts, during the development of the SO-Aware Test Workbench we literally obsessed about making performance testing as simple as it gets. One of the aspects that make performance testing so simple with the SO-Aware Test Workbench is that it leverages SO-Aware’s WCF centralized configuration capabilities.

How fast are my services? Is NetTcpBinding really that fast?
NetTcpBinding is often assumed to offer the best performance of all WCF bindings. When working on WCF implementations, I often hear from developers argue about the performance benefits that their solution gain by usingnettcp endpoints but rarely see any benchmarks to confirm that assertion for their specific scenario.

Load Testing your WCF Service in Two Clicks
A few months back I was talking to a VP of Architecture from one of our customers about service testing practices and he expressed a very blunt viewpoint about load testing: “Developers don’t load test their web services because it's to F…. difficult”.

SO-Aware at the Atlanta Connected Systems User Group
Today my colleague Don Demsak will be presenting a session about WCF management, testing and governance using SO-Aware and the SO-Aware Test Workbench at the Connected Systems User Group in Atlanta. Don is a very engaging speaker and has prepared some very cool demos based on lessons of real world WCF solutions. If you are in the ATL area and interested in WCF, AppFabric, BizTalk you should definitely swing by Don’s session. Don’t forget to heckle him a bit (you can blame it for it ;) )

How fast are my services? Comparing basicHttpBinding and ws2007HttpBinding using the SO-Aware Test Workbench
When working on real world WCF solutions, we become pretty aware of the performance implications of the binding and behavior configuration of WCF services. However, whether it’s a known fact the different binding and behavior configurations have direct reflections on the performance of WCF services, developers often struggle to figure out the real performance behavior of the services. We can attribute this to the lack of tools for correctly testing the performance characteristics of WCF services under different load profiles. As sad as this sound, the fact of the matter is that the existing web service load test tools in the market can barely test anything other than the basicHttpBinding.
-
Announcing SO-Aware Test Workbench
Yesterday was a big day for Tellago Studios. After a few months hands down working, we announced the release of the SO-Aware Test Workbench tool which brings sophisticated performance testing and test visualization capabilities to theWCF world. This work has been the result of the feedback received by many of our SO-Aware and Tellago customers in terms of how to improve the WCF testing. More importantly, with the SO-Aware Test Workbench we are trying to address what has been one of the biggest challenges for WCF and BizTalk applications for years: LOAD TESTING!
-
Agile SOA Governance: SO-Aware and Visual Studio Integration
One of the major limitations of traditional SOA governance platforms is the lack of integration as part of the development process. Tools like HP-Systinet or SOA Software are designed to operate by models on which the architects dictate the governance procedures and policies and the rest of the team members follow along. Consequently, those procedures are frequently rejected by developers and testers given that they can’t incorporate it as part of their daily activities.

Tellago & Tellago Studios at Microsoft TechReady
This week Microsoft is hosting the first edition of their annual TechReady conference. Even though TechReady is an internal conference, Microsoft invited us to present a not one but two sessions about some our recent work. We are particularly proud of the fact that one of those sessions is about our SO-Aware service registry. We see this as a recognition to the growing popularity of SO-Aware as the best Agile SOA governance solution in the Microsoft platform.

Using a service registry that doesn’t suck Part III: Service testing is part of SOA governance
This is the third post of this series intended to highlight some of the principles of modern SOA governance solution. You can read the first two parts here:
-
Using Google Protocol Buffers Hypermedia Type with WCF RESTful Services: A media type processor sample
Protocol Buffers is language neutral format for serializing structured data in a very optimal format. You can think about protocol buffers as XML or JSON but lighter and smaller. This format its widely used at Google to exchange data between different systems.

Using a service registry that doesn’t suck part II: Dear registry, do you have to be a message broker?
Continuing our series of posts about service registry patterns that suck, we decided to address one of the most common techniques that Service Oriented (SOA) governance tools use to enforce policies.

Tellago 2011: Dwight, Chris and Don are MVPs
It’s been a great start of 2011. Tellago’s Dwight Goins has been awarded as a Microsoft BizTalk Server MVP for 2011. I’ve always said that Dwight should have been an MVP a long time ago. His contributions to the BizTalk Server community are nothing but remarkable.
