  • Read this carefully:
No-Cost Upgrades for Active MSDN Universal Subscribers
Existing MSDN Universal subscribers can enjoy a seamless transition to Visual Studio 2005 Team System and automatically receive a no-cost upgrade to one of the role-based subscription products for each active subscription license they own at the time of product availability. Special upgrade pricing to the Team Suite also will be available. Active subscribers may elect to renew their subscription and preserve their existing pricing for future renewals, if they choose; customers without subscriptions, or customers whose subscriptions have lapsed at the time of product availability, will not receive these special pricing offers.

    • MSDN Universal is tooo expensive myself as a freelance developer. Wish I could find a line on it cheaper.

    • Look for MSDN subscriptions on EBay. While not cheap (around $8-900 US), they are definitely cheaper. And they work. I've purchased a couple of licenses there within the past few years with no problems and no questions asked of anyone.

    • It amazes me that anyone would purchase Visual Studio without purchasing MSDN Universal. By the time you factor in the Office suite alone, it becomes a good deal. Add on top of that all the licensed servers available for development, it's almost a steal.

Also, I've never payed sticker price for MSDN universal. It is usually deeply discounted through various (legitimate) channels.
