Etienne Tremblay est Directeur Associé en charge du centre de technologies Microsoft chez DMR. Il a plus de 17 ans d’expérience en technologie. Au cours des 10 dernières années il s’est spécialisé dans les technologies Microsoft, spécifiquement dans la gestion des procédés de développement, il a aussi une expertise dans les industries minières et manufacturières. Il a été conférencier pour DevTeach et il participe au conseil facultatif Visual Studio Team System en tant qu’expert et MVP Microsoft. Il est aussi juge pour la compétition Imagine Cup depuis 3 ans et cette année pour la compétition Ignite IT.

Arnaud Cleret: Oslo
Nous profitons de notre présence à Paris pour discuter d'Oslo avec Arnaud Cleret. Oslo est le nom de code de la prochaine plateforme de modélisation de Microsoft. Entre autres, nous discutons en quoi Oslo est une pièce maitresse pour l'arrimage entre les équipes de développement et les équipes responsables des opérations.
Arnaud CLERET a débuté sa carrière en intégrant la DSI d’Aéroports de Paris où il a pu évoluer dans différents rôles tels que développeur, chef de projet puis architecte en se spécialisant sur les problématiques d'architectures distribuées et d'industrialisation des développements. C’est en 2005 qu’il rejoint Exakis en tant que Leader Technique .Net et il prend en charge, en janvier 2007, l'activité Architecture des Systèmes d'Information dont le rôle est d'intervenir principalement sur des missions de définition d'architecture, d'expertise, d’industrialisation et d'audit chez les clients autour des technologies Microsoft. Depuis juillet 2008, c'est un rôle plus transverse et stratégique qui lui a été confié puisqu'il tient dorénavant le rôle de Directeur Technique et de Responsable du Département Logiciel chez Exakis.

At the last MVP Summit, I was looking for some Expression books and I found Expression Design Step by Step at the Microsoft Store. I bought it because it was dirt cheap and it sat in my bookshelf since then. In my quest to learn Expression Blend, I looked back at that book because Design and Blend share many features.
Being in the Step by Step line of MS Press books, it is targeted at vector graphics noobs; perfect for .NET developers but way too nooby for designers. Funny to say but this short 280 pages Design book helped me a lot learning Blend.
Note that the book covers Expression Design 2.
If you want to change the structure of a table, by default SQL Management Studio prevents you from doing this if it require that the table be dropped and recreated.
If you want to change this behaviour, from the Designers section in the Tools/Options menu, simply uncheck “Prevent saving changes that require table re-creation”.

In learning Silverlight, I think that the major hurdle for a .NET developer is to learn and familiarized himself with Expression Blend. In my quest to learn Blend, I recently bought Foundation Expression Blend 3 with Silverlight by Victor Gaudioso and published by friends of ED.
First of all, the book was released almost on the same date as Silverlight 3 so I knew that something’s was fishy because writing and publishing a book takes months. Never the less, I gave the book a chance.
The book title is somewhat misleading because there’s not enough focus on Blend itself. It is more like a general Silverlight book targeted at designers wanting to learn a little bit of Blend, a little bit of Visual Studio and a little bit of C#. Keeping that in mind, it gives a quick overview of what it takes to develop with the Silverlight platform.
And the Silverlight 3 content? It is just obvious that the book was written when the technology was in early Beta. That content seems to be have been rushed and inserted at the last minute.
Is it a bad book? Not at all but if you want to focus mostly on Blend, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
Students can get Expression Studio 3 for free by registering with the Microsoft DreamSpark program. On top of that, they can get Visual Studio 2008 Pro, SQL Server 2008 Developer and Windows Server 2008 Standard, all for free.
