Upgrading the PDC laptop memory

The PDC laptop comes with 2GB and according to the specs found here, it can be upgraded to 8GB.

System memory: 2GB of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, upgradeable to 8 GB using two soDIMM modules

Fellow RD Brian Noyes opened the back cover of its laptop and discovered that only one slot was used so it’s an easy upgrade to 4GB.  Just buy an install a similar memory module: 2GB PC3-8500 soDIMM, 204 pins.  They go for about $40-50 US or $60-70 CDN at online retailers like TigerDirect and NewEgg.  I bought my at my local MicroBytes store.  Upgrading to 8GB would require discarding the existing 2GB module and buying 2 x 4GB modules.  That would cost around $300-450 US.

The process is simple (but do it at your own risk).  Unplug the power, turn the laptop over, make sure there’s no static, unscrew 6 screws, open the cover.

Slide the memory module in the empty slot, put the cover back and screw back the screws.

And voilà!  4GB

[Edit: You can mix 2GB and 4GB modules.  This way, you can install 4GB to get a total of 6GB.  Sweet!]
