Whats that? codezone

Today SBC blogged the start of codezone. The self description ist "community of communitys". Codezone started in Swtzerland 2 years ago as a usal portal for developers made by microsoft Switzerland. From my point of view Switzerland is a blank space on the community map and codezone filled this leak.

The next step was the adoption of codezone by microsoft germany on cebit last year. Now it was a content syndication portal with expert reviewed content. The major diffrence to search engine was a linking between the information.

Now codezone starts on www.codezone.com . As codewise member i thought codewise programm changes to codezone. But now it seems codezone is a portal for usergroups. (find, register .. a user group) Does microsoft have dropped support for INETA?

I believe something is going wrong with microsoft communitys acitivites.

  • I had received an invitation from INETA to have our group (CTDOTNET) join CodeZone. It is an *additional* resource available to INETA members and is not seen as a replacement (to INETA).

  • I am in charge for codezone Ireland and this is different from Ineta. But it's a bit confusing here with the launch of MSDN Connection.

Here we have a couple of communities and my hope is to make Codezone like an event journal

  • Codezone is a brand for developer communities. Each country (CH, DE, UK, US etc.) have own codezone implementation adapted to the local needs, but all implementations shares the common platform. Codewise service will be integrated into this common platform. As a Codewise member, you are aware of this.

Microsoft is supporting INETA, nothing has changed - I'd say, this support is even better now. Regarding codezone.com - MS US Sub is just collecting data about their local UG events using the new codezone platform, just as we do it in other countries. But, their frontend ist a bit different and strongly focused on UGs (INETA and Culminis).

In order to avoid this manual task, in the future (with new INETA website) we will expose the services for exchanging the UG details and events between platforms.

I hope it is more clear now. ;-)

  • I was involved at some point, so your remark sounds interesting, do you have specific suggestions at hand Hannes?

Codezone is more of a meta data repository (Maybe with a tad of a reward system attached to it). As Damir pointed out Codezone won't replace INETA. Most importantly Codezone is not a user group, it doesn't do events and it is not positioned as such. Switzerland has had different needs, which have been addressed accordingly.

Other countries may have other requirements, and I'm sure they will find a solution which will strengthen existing communities and grow INETA.^:)

This may help to read the definition.

Meta data := Data of data

    Therefor:

Meta Community := Community of Community.

    Cheers Ben
