ASP.NET MVC3, WebMatrix, NuGet, IIS Express and Orchard released - The Microsoft January Web Release in Context
At PDC10 last November I did a talk on the " Unnamed Package of Web Love " , showing ASP.NET MVC3 and Razor Syntax, the NuGet Package Manager, as well as SQL Compact Edition and a little " Entity Framework Magic Unicorn ." I make up my own names when I don't like what Microsoft names things, as you may notice. Today Microsoft announced the (actual, final, honest) releases of: ASP.NET MVC3 with Razor Lots of new features, the new Razor syntax, more extensibility hooks, new JavaScript...( read more ) Read More...
Awarded Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Award for 2010
As is the case with most of my blog posting of late, it’s well.. late and in a big queue, but seeing this is relatively time sensitive and the fact that I’m over the moon again.  I thought I’d jot a quick post. Last Thursday (1st July 2010), I was very pleased to receive an email from Microsoft to inform me that I had been awarded the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Award for 2010 – Internet Information Services (IIS).  This is the third consecutive year I have received this and as...( read more ) Read More...
Netcraft: IIS now serves 50 Million Hostnames!
I was going through some data on IIS webservers today and came across Netcraft , which is a website that gives monthly statistical data on webservers from different companies and some other interesting stuff. Not sure if this data can be taken official or not but what really excited me was the number of hostnames that were running on IIS. Microsoft Web Server has hit the BIG number of 50 Million hostnames from which Netcraft has recieved response . Now, yes, I know what you must be thinking. We all...( read more ) Read More...
Building an Embodied Social Proxy or Crazy Webcam Remote Cart Thing
As a remote worker I'm always looking to find better ways to work with the team that don't involve actually going to Seattle. As much as I love/hate Microsoft, I'm not moving. However, this always puts me at a disadvantage. There's only so many places (and only so far) i can go as a remote worker. When Phil and I made the "HanselPortal," essentially a persistent always-on Skype Chat, that gave folks a place to drop by and chat (at least those two lazy to just call me via Office Communicator...( read more ) Read More...
Why should I use Web Platform Installer?
This is one question I have often heard from a lot of people. I had written about this a long time back and yet find it interesting enough to give it another shot. For those who are not aware... Web platform installer is a free tool from Microsoft which lets you download, install and configure tools and utilities under the Microsoft Web Platform umbrella. So that includes IIS, Web Tools and Extensions from Microsoft, Runtime Frameworks, Development tools (These are express editions ofcourse) and...( read more ) Read More...
