Installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 on Vista

If you download Abode Acrobat Reader 8 and try to install it on your Vista machine it could be that you'll encounter the following message:

If you do... following is the work around that i've found to the problem:

1. Start the installation as usual, do no dismiss the error message box.

2. Open erplorer and copy the "Adobe Reader 8" directory from the following path to your root dir
"C:\Users\{username}\AppData\LocalLow\Netopsystems\temp\"

3. run the setup.exe from the "Adobe Reader 8" directory on your root dir.

Running the setup.exe did not work for me, it just kept giving me the same error telling me that my temprorary file is on a drive that is full, but I trird running the Acroread.msi file in that same directory and it installed the program.

I spent a lot of time getting frustrated trying to fix this. Thanks a lot. Btw, the error I got said the temp directory is full - this fixes that as well!

Same as Tyson, error read "The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible."

Copying the extracted installation to the root and installing from there worked like a charm.

Thanks!

All you have to do is set compatibility mode on the ".exe" installation file to Windows XP SP2 then right click ".exe" installation file and select "Run as Administrator", it should install without a problem.

Vista just cannot locate the AdobePDF.dll correctly. Just copy/paste AdobePDF.dll & install.

BTW I knew that non-legitimate Acrobat 8 cannot possibly install correctly in Vista (x86)(x64)

Just my 2 cents

The suggestions to copy the files to my root directory did not work.  I ended up enabling user account controls, installing it, then disabling that piece of junk functionality.

Go Adobe for assuming we are not power users and disabling that horrible vista feature.

This is one of the solutions that Adobe says to do...  move the folder to your desktop, run the .mis file from the desktop.  All is well.

Hello,

Can't help but comment on this article. I have tried virtually *everything* which is described by the original blogger and via the large amount of different methods suggested in the answers and NONE of them has worked in my case.

Windows Vista has been on the market long enough for even a ServicePack to appear and Adobe hasn't manage to get it right yet. What is really the matter here? I've encountered countless programs which have now been upgraded to suit Vista but Adobe Reader can't still be applied to this OS without tricks or tweaks. Extremely bad show in my opinion.

So, I abandon Adobe here - and I know I'm not the first one or will I be the last one - to work with Foxit instead. No probs installing, no probs working, light, easy and comprehensive. Good bye old and obsolete Adobe from me!
