Windows Live Messenger - error 8100030f

I’ve just installed the latest Windows Live Messenger and found out that while i am able to work fine from home… at work i keep on getting error 8100030f while trying to sign in.

The solution to the problem is to edit the ”hosts” file which is located at :

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

Just add to the file the following line at the end of the file:

65.54.239.80    messenger.hotmail.com

And yep… you can finally sign-in again :-)

It works well right after add the entry in host file. Any reason why we need to add it?

Awesome; thank you.

I wish Micro$oft would include that in their FAQ page.  God knows there are a million other errors and this would be right there with them.

Thanks.

Windows Live Messenger happens to work fine from home but at work i keep on getting error 8100030f while trying to sign in.

I've tried inserting the line:

65.54.239.80    messenger.hotmail.com

in the hosts file, but then error 8007274c comes up.

Then I've also tried msn connection troubleshooting tool, but it deletes the above mentioned line from the hosts file and I'm again from the beggining.

Could the proxy be blocking msn traffic? With my previous pc, I had sporadic connection problems, but mostly worked.

Thanks in advance for any hint.
