Roger Sessions on System Complexity at VSLive Dallas
While reviewing VSLive Dallas, I also want to mention that I sat in on a very good (keynote) session by Roger Sessions. I have read many of his articles and newsletters over the past years, so I wanted to take the opportunity to hear him speak in person.

Adding Instant Messaging to your Web Site
One of the fun demos that I did in my session on the Windows Live SDK at VSLive Dallas earlier this month, was to do a live demo of adding Windows Live Instant Messaging to a live web site in real-time. I generally think (at least) twice about doing such live demos - especially on a production web site - since SOO much can go wrong. But adding the Windows Live Messenger control is really that easy!

Great Tool for Learning LINQ to Entities
As part of my research and preparations for my presentation on the new Entity Framework at the VSLive New York conference, I came across a great tool (thanks to Kim) for learning and playing with LINQ to Entities queries. Principle or Price ?
In an long post entitled Get Out the Tums: Life Beyond the Desktop Browser Gives Agita to Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo the GoogleGazer offers an interesting analysis of the changes currently underway in the computer industry. While the blog post in a good read in its own right, I want to quote here his closing paragraph after his suggestion that Yahoo is willing to do anything just to stay alive. It is an story and a thought that will bring a smile to your face - and offer an interesting insight to interactions in all aspects fo your life.

Suddenly in Seattle ...
This week I unexpectedly found myself at Microsoft in Seattle. I was contracted by Microsoft Learning as a Subject Matter Expert to do some work on a couple of their upcoming certification exams for developers. It was my first time engaging with Microsoft in this area and I found it very interesting and challenging. There is actually a very well-defined standard process that the development of every exam must go through, before it is offered as a "live" exam. It was an interesting few days - and then I had also made some time to meet with other contacts at corp to see what is going on inthe differnet groups, especially as they are all gearing up for the new fiscal year (July 1).

Notes on TechEd Israel 2008
Last week was the (now) semi-annual TechEd Israel conference. This was my sixth time participating in this event - I have given presentations at all six TechEds here. The conference is an amazing experience and has come a long way from 2000/2001 when we had to lobby Microsoft Israel to put on such an event. There were about 3,500 participants - about half the amount of TechEd EMEA for all of Europe!

VSLive San Francisco in Less Than 3 weeks
Yes, it is that time of year again (and I say that most happily!) to go out to San Francisco to speak at the VSLive Conference. This year I am focussing on real-world use of DataSets, both with VS 2005 and VS 2008. But don't attend just for that - there are many other great sessions and speakers that you will really enjoy and learn from.
