Cool Navigation in SharePoint 2007 using jQuery – Teaser!

So you think GUI coolness nowadays is only related to fancy RIA stuff like Silverlight? Think again! The video above is a little project I’m working on, using jQuery plugins to show a cool way to navigate to the Lists and Document Libraries of a SharePoint site. So there are no requirements on the client, everything is done using Javascript! Nifty isn’t it? I need to polish the code a little bit and I hope to be able to release it later on this week. But i’m still thinking about a cool name .. any suggestions?

Very nice, Jan...

As for a name, reminds me of the Dock nav in the Mac OS.  How about something like SPDock, or SPNavDoc?

Keep up the good work

Rich

Super Cool!  Wow!  I love what you've done here.  ActivNav?  Are you releasing this as open source?  If so, please let me know.  If you are packaging for re-sale, let me know too.  I run into a lot of customers who would like to see this type of thing on their sites.  Any other details would be cool - packaged and deployed as a feature?  Part of a master page?  Etc.?

JQuery & Sharepoint, both of them rocks .. Here's my teaser about having a Sharepoint document library renderer that use Jquery and that remove all postbacks !

wow..that is really cool!

As Rich already said, it resembles the Mac doc.. I don't know about using that on our production site, but it sure looks awesome!!

Keep on the good work!

As for a name..anything with "doc" or "dock" in it would make it look like a document solution..But you can't name it "niftyCoolJQueryNavigator" either..

Perhaps "dynamic-JNav" ?

Looks great! I'm hoping to use it in a production app we have coming out soon. Rather than "doc" I think something "flow". How about ListFlow or ShareFlow?

Pretty cool idea.

It looks exactly like RocketDock and ObjectDock...so I would give it a similar name...like  'ShareDock' or 'QuickDock'  something simple.

Fantastic demo Jan, really breaks free from the "virtual chains" you tend to get bound by when thinking about UI design in SharePoint.

The name that crossed my mind was AmiNav.

Really looking forward to more jQuery adventures on your blog...
