A Portion of Buff

Everybody else had one, so...

Apples and pairs

Robert asks if anyone else is pair-programming.  Well, pairing is mandatory here - no production code is written without a partner, and we always think in terms of pairs when we plan resources for an iteration.  I've noticed that no-one's really blogging about pairing or XP with .Net, so I'll try to write up a few notes sometime.  The short story is - it helps us write better code, faster.  No doubt.

I think pair programming can benefit development, but I think pairing is the only real aspect of XP that is usable IMHO. I'm not a believer of the XP methodology and personally I think it will not help you a lot. Mind you: I'm refering to the complete XP package, thus no up-front analysis, evolutionairy coding practises, no in-depth analysis of future requirements etc. Call me old-skool, but I think designing software away from the keyboard is key to developing solid complex software that works. Pairs of developers can however help with the implementation process.

I wrote a series of posts on XP/agile earlier this year. See http://weblogs.asp.net/wallen/
