EPISODE #76 - the rain this morning was unbelievably violent. I give you a taste of the future, breaking down enhanced podcasts and speculating on the rumor that Microsoft is actually a lot more involved in podcasting than would appear. I also give you a primer on the major points to running a good interview, podcast or otherwise (many of which I violate all the time, but it's still good to keep them in the back of your mind). I also comment on MSNBC.com's list of the top albums of the last 20 years as selected by that site's readers.
Topics discussed: -
-
Microsoft's participation in podcasting not as anemic as we might think...
-
An introduction to enhanced podcasts
-
(MP4 AAC files (.M4A & .M4B extensions) with additional functionality in iTunes 4.9 like linking, showing pictures in iTunes players and iPods, chapterizing (track references)
-
Tips on running a good interview (podcast or otherwise):
-
ORGANIZE! Get your stuff together - prepare questions ahead of time and arrange them in a logical flow.
-
Let the interview subject do most of the talking. Your role is to make them a star, not the other way around.
-
You're in control. Keep it that way. Set the tone, set the pace, you determine the flow, and police the activity of the theme. You don't want audible anarchy.
-
Really listen to what the interviewee has to say.
-
Think about it before you say it.
-
Humor is your friend.
-
Banter is good...getting off tangent OK, but always come back to your main discussion.
-
Don't ask a question and then answer it in the same sentence.
-
Know when to wrap it up.
-
Just be yourself. Emulation is OK, but let your own personality shine through
