Mashup/mash-up: one word, two somewhat completely different meanings

Just for posterity before anyone gets totally confused:

Mashup - a term used in the DJ community, popular also with podcasting audiences and creators, referring to the creative blending of two or more songs into a single track, such as an MP3 mix.

Mash-up - a term used to describe the growing Web 2.0 community of developers that create new applications derived of public APIs like those from Google, eBay, Flickr, and Technorati.

Good grief.

You don't seriously think that people are going to make a distinction based on a hyphen, do you? Hell, most people can't figure out when to use an apostrophe, much less a hyphen. (A sign at the school near me says "Parents pick-up your children here." Good grief.)

hahaha! my take on the whole situation is that people view English conversations like web apps...they so often neglect proper use of context. :)
