Barry Diller and I see eye-to-eye...sort of
Billionaire Barry Diller of IAC evidently ruffled some feathers at the Web 2.0 Conference , saying: "...Diller made some comments disparaging those who create content on the Web that only a handful of people will ever see. " When you get into forms of...

Get out of telemarketing calls
Even here in the Pacific, we get tons of telemarketer calls. They're getting more common this time of year, and more troublesome. I normally get out of them by telling the person I'm also in market research. Bingo! Automatic exclusion from the target...

Tech company execs generally make lousy presenters
Being in Guam, I'm limited by budget and geography in not being able to personally attend big events put on by leading firms in the high-tech sector like Google, Microsoft, CBS News, Oracle, etc. So I watch a lot of streaming video of their grand presentations...

How bad would you be willing to change your development skill set to get a good job?
When considering a job in software development at a new company, one of the first things I look for is what platform the company uses. Oftentimes this is THE deciding factor in whether I'll pursue the job or not (and vice-versa). I don't do anything in...

How tough is Google's interview process?
With Google positioning itself to be "the new Microsoft" - to be understood as gaining a place in the mind of the SEC, the media, the developer community, the business student, rivals, and prospective employees as the most popular/dominant/challenged...

Let's not assume everyone knows how to develop in best-practices fashion
I've never been afraid to raise my hand and ask what others might see as a dumb question if it helps the community learn something (myself included). I've always been altruistic like that. That said, one thing that's been irking me is how would-be "experienced...

10 steps to being a successful Web 2.0 company
Reall, really, really neat stuff here that's not necessarily anti-corporation/anti-big business, but more pro-smart business in the age of new media. Makes you think about leveraging podcasting, blogging, tagging, and metadata'ing the crap out of everything...

Behold the ravages of age
Geez...funny how life is sometimes. At my geriatric age of 31 years, I'm amazed at how certain role-specific questions relative to a job interview, asked on-the-spot, would have floored me at 22: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? How does...

Flipping the script on the Microsoft interview process
I'm sitting here in my office preparing for a phone interview with MSNBC.com. I'm remided of my three valiant, but unsuccessful, attempts to get into Microsoft, and how tough the interview was when I was brought out to the Redmond, Washington campus....

Locked out of my .Text blog...but only in IE
Weird...after an automated cookie dump on my home PC, I've been locked out of accessing my .Text-based blog's admin page (I'm writing this by getting into my admin page through FireFox). The funny thing is that (1) the 'email me my password' link within...
