.NET Nightly 42 or Architecture Newsletter, Longhorn, and Mobile News

I noticed the other day that I have pretty much only been doing .NET Nightlys lately, and that I need to get back to posting more on other subjects. I have also been thinking about creating another blog where I can talk about whatever (even though there is no posting cop here, I don't want to clutter this group feed with too much crap), and then still cross post .NET Nightlys and stuff like that to this feed, but first I need to get a site setup to move over to. Anyway, here are some links:

PDC DVD

”If you didn’t make it to the PDC you can buy a DVD with WMVs and PowerPoint slides of the sessions. Unfortunately the DVD doesn’t come cheap – you’ll have to pay $499 USD. If you were at the PDC you can buy the DVD for $199 USD.”

[Andrej Budja]

This does not make any sense to me, this thing should cost about $20. I could even stomach $50, but $500 is ridiculous. What's next? Charging for SDKs? This is information that Microsoft wants to get to the developers, it is a good thing for Microsoft if more people know about this stuff, so why the cost? Actually I would suggest that they send this DVD to every MSDN Magazine Subscriber, MSDN Subscriber, and mail them like AOL disks... Get this info out there, blanket the developer community. (This is right up your alley Scoble, help us out)

Meeting Roy in the Street

“Another funny thing that happened, that can be related into the community culture: I was mistakenly “pulled' into a chat with about 10 other folks. I can't remember who invited me, but suddenly there I was, in an MSN chat with 10 strangers. All of them looked just as surprised as I was. Looking at the email aliases I could recognize at least two bloggers that I know of - Colt and James Avery. While Colt went off the chat in a breeze, I exchanged a couple of words with James (although less than a minute) and it felt a little like running into him on the street, like an old friend. How crazy is that? The sense of community here is pretty awesome IMHO.”

[Roy]

It was pretty funny, and it was great to talk to Roy (who is supposed to be adding me to his IM), and I also ran into another guy who happens to be working in Cleveland. What a cool way to meet people.  I know it was an accident on whoever pulled us in there, but it ended up working out pretty well.... maybe I will start selecting ten random people and inviting them to a conversation and see what happens.

.NET Nightly 41 or WhiteHorse, PDC Movies, and MSN Direct

PDC is winding down and only now will the real impact of some of this stuff start to be realized, it will be interesting to see what people have to say over the next couple weeks.

  • WhiteHorse Info (Bottom of page)- This is one of the features that is most intriguing to me, yet information is still hard to find. You have to scroll to the bottom of this page for information on Whitehorse.
  • PDC Movies - Some funny stuff here...
  • MSN Direct Site Launched (formerly SPOT)-  Not sure if this was launched with PDC or not, but it looks like the site is now live.

Oh, and something you can actually use today.

.NET Nightly 39 or Information Overload and the Lighter Side of PDC

Wow, there is just a ton of information out there today.

  • The Mobile Minute 1 - Awesome! Nino is going to keep us up to date on the mobile developments in the world.
  • Microsoft "Indigo" FAQ - If after reading all the blogs, you are still like "Ok, what the f--- is Indigo?"
  • MSDN Labs - It's like beta testing for MSDN features, look forward to seeing what they put up there.

And now for the lighter side of PDC, these are posts that just cracked me up.

.NET Nightly 38 or What else am I going to talk about?

Wow, PDC just exploded all over the blogsphere today...  Lots and lost of noise out there, but here are the best links that will get you most information without sifting through all the feeds.

  • PDC Keynote Summary - It was neat to sit there and watch as Hanselman's blog posts started popping up, good stuff and still the best overall summary of the keynote.
  • ASP.NET/Whidbey - All kinds of Whidbey screen shots, this is the awesome stuff that I have been dying to talk about.
  • Longhorn Development Center - Already some good stuff up here, you are better off reading these sites then trying to piece together stuff from blogs.
  • Official PDC Site - Good stuff here as well.

Oh, and one non-PDC link:

.NET Nightly 37

No sub-title today, doing an experiment which I will tell you about next week. I wish I was going to PDC, but at least as soon as PDC starts I can start talking about some of the cool stuff that I know about Whidbey.

.NET Nightly 36 or IIS 6, The Regulator, and the Practical Eye

.NET Nightly 35 or PDC, PDC, and PDC

I have been looking for other news, but man, everything is just PDC, or rather Whidbey or Longhorn... so I might as well link to em.
