Don Box's Essential .NET. The book review is pretty good, actually, but some of the responses are a bit off base. Watching the *nix heads spread a little FUD of their own always gives me a good chuckle.
I'm pretty agnostic on the OS / language wars actually - I'm a best tool for the job kinda guy.
