VS 2005 CTP - Package Load Failure?

I installed VS 2005 CTP on a Virtual PC image of Windows XP Pro. At the end of the install, I got several "Package Load Failure" error messages:

---------------------------
Package Load Failure
---------------------------
Package 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSCorePackage, Microsoft.VisualStudio, Version=2.0.3600.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' has failed to load properly ( GUID = {7494682B-37A0-11D2-A273-00C04F8EF4FF} ). Please contact package vendor for assistance. Would you like to disable loading this package in the future? You may use 'devenv /resetskippkgs' to re-enable package loading. Application restart is recommended, due to possible environment corruption.
---------------------------

Here are the offending packages:
SDMDesignerPackage
XmlDesignerPackage
Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSCorePackage
VSDesignerPackage
Microsoft.CompactFramework.Design.DesignerPackage

And in the VS Install log I've got these errors for the aforementioned packages:
03/28/04 16:44:08 DDSet_Error: CreateInstance failed for package [SdmDesignerPackage]  GUID={39509E1B-E019-4B2C-835F-784430144E08}  HRESULT=0x7fffffff

Anyone else got this problem? More important, anyone care to put me out of my misery?

  • I get the exact same thing... even after reinstalling and uninstalling many times... not using VPC. Quite vexing.

Email me if ya can figure this isssue out metx84@comcast.net

  • I had install troubles related to the SDMDesigner which occurred when I was trying to install directly off a virtual mounted drive (on top of the downloaded *.img file). After I copied the contents of the *.img file from the virtual mounted drive to a place on my hard drive, and tried the installation again with the virtual drive out of the picture, it went smoothly. Not sure if you might be having a similar issue.

  • I ended up downloading from MSDN again. Installed same way as before and it worked. Maybe file was corrupted on download the first time.

  • I have the same problem and I'm still loking for solution While creating new project ?

  • I am getting this problem with Visual Studio 2008 Professional.

I get this message when I go to the project configuration window and select any of the items in the tree list.

I have tried reinstalling Visual Studio - the problem persists.

Please post here if you know what the hell is wrong with this.

  • I have this same problem with vs2k5 after uninstaling vs2k8express.
