Paying To Read Blogs??

While doing some browsing this afternoon, I came across PixelPass. With this, bloggers add "one line of code" to their template pages of their blogging engine to create an obscure image over the blog. For readers to read the blog, they must click the link and pay. Personally, I think this company is smart in doing what they are doing as I'm assuming they are one of the first ones. They'll be rich soon and laughing at me. However, I don't think you should force someone to pay just to read your blog. If that's the case, write an article and publish it somewhere. What do you think?

Wow. I think that one line in my Firefox adblock list ("https://www.pixelpass.com/images/*") rendered their content protection entirely neutralised.

I concur doctor... getting paid isn't what blogging is really about, for me. I blog cause it's a nice way to vent and expose information. If I wanted to get paid, I would write a book...

There's also the whole concept of just highlighting the text of the blog and copying it to notepad... or you could always just subscribe to that blogs rss feed....

My first reaction is that they may have gotten it backwards. If my blog is popular, I can put Adsense on it, and as long as its not too obtrusive and in good taste, people can continue to read my blog for free and I'll make money. Right?

Using adblock in firefox, I simply selected the "blocking" script on the demo site and refreshed the page. Presto, no more stupid image.

I didn't place any of those suggested fixes on my blog for the fear that someone might pick up on their mistakes. Using adblock in FireFox, copying into Notepad, pulling RSS, or even hiding the div using javascript in the browser bar are all ways to get around it. :)

Shhhh - Just don't tell anyone. ;)
