Do YOU know what Unit Tests Are?

I was on the ASP.NET website earlier and saw the weekly poll asking visitors if they use unit tests in their ASP.NET applications. At the present time, over 40% of the visitors said 'What are unit tests?' In all but one of our applications, we are not using them simply because of the size and complexity. However, we will soon be redeveloping our main application and will use unit tests for all tiers. It's really amazing though that many developers don't understand what they are. I'm going to pocket this idea as a future presentation at a user group meeting.

Yeah, it's amazing how many people still aren't at least familiar with the concept (whether they use them or not). I gave a presentation to a college student user group and the whole room was blank stares when I started talking about unit testing and continuous integration. I don't think there's much formal education going on around these topics.

Good point. Then these same students become developers and because they are unaware of these things, they may build bad apps. I wish schools would start to teach these prinicipals at their level.
