Windows 7 Editions Announced

The edition line-up for Windows 7 seems to be more streamlined then the list provided for Vista. To summarize, there are now 2 main editions for home users: Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Ultimate. There are also 2 editions for businesses which are Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise (Enterprise will be for customers that have Software Assurance and is similar to Ultimate). For more information, be sure to check out the press release at Microsoft.com.

  • Ummm... That article mentions Home Basic will be made available to the 'rest of the world' (non-US). It sounds like Microsoft has NOT learned their lesson, and are releasing the SAME amount of versions... Win 7 Starter Edition, Win 7 Home Basic, Win 7 Home Premium, Win 7 Business, Win 7 Enterprise, and Win 7 Professional. How in the world does that simplify buying Windows?

  • I normally don't make a habit of commenting on blog posts, but "more streamlined then [sic] the list provided for Vista"? I'm sure you meant to be cynical, but I did miss the punch line. Streamlined would be one (1) edition of Windows 7 (which I agree is an improvement to Vista); if you need the business stuff, buy (online) the Business Add-On; if you need the home stuff, buy (online) the Home Add-On; if you need both, buy both. Calling it Home Premium Pro Ultimate is just plain confusing, and definitely not more streamlined. Just my 2c.

  • Dont know why Microsoft didnt keep the the original idea. One machine One O/S. No user confusion - it just an O/S. How many version of Mac O/S are there.
