Visual Studio 2008 Holiday InstallFest(ivus)

This was my first visit to the Tempe Center for the Arts and it is an impressive site, nice architecture, pictures and a bunch of techies... Hey, what would an Art Center... I mean an InstallFest be without techies.

We are in a banquet style room with a view of the Tempe Town "lake".

The countdown begins...

Scott Cate of MyKb kicked off the InstallFest(ivus) with a speech on how great the Phoenix area developer community is, which of course I agree.

Scott announced that Scott Guthrie, "father of ASP.NET" will be in Phoenix area giving a talk on March 11, 2008 at the Scottsdale Center of Arts.

Demo 1:  Lutz Roeder's .NET Reflector (http://www.aisto.com/roeder/dotnet)

Demo 2:  Rob Bagby (http://www.robbagby.com) gave a demo of Astoria and the Entity Data Model.

... then the giveaways....

That's all for me, it is off to NY to start my holiday vacation.

To get you free software

For those of you who did not write the URL to get your copy of Visual Studio 2008, it is http://www.vs2008offer.com, you will need the special code that you got at the event (the red sticker). Once you register you will get the installation code at some point in the future.  Use the installation disc that you received at the event to reinstall the software and enter the new code.   If you do not have the code that you received at the event, you are out of luck unfortunately.

Visual Studio® 2008 Web Deployment Projects - December 2007 CTP

For those of you that have not seen, Microsoft has released the Web Deployments Project add-in to Visual Studio 2008.

Overview

Visual Studio 2008 Web Deployment Projects is an add-in to Visual Studio 2008 which provides developers with advanced compilation and deployment options. A Web Deployment project is extensible, enabling web developers to create pre-build and post-build actions.
Web Deployment projects do not change the way Visual Studio 2008 Web Sites or Web Application Projects build. Instead, they take an existing Web project as input and generate a precompiled Web as an output. A Web Deployment project does not change the files in the source Web site project in any way either.
Visual Studio 2008 Web Deployment Projects has all the functionalities that Visual Studio 2005 Web Deployment Projects had. Developers can read more about this core functionality at “Using Web Deployment Projects with Visual Studio 2005”.
However, there are certain enhancements in this CTP, to learn more about this release, please visit the Visual Studio Web Developer Team Blog.
This CTP targets early adopters of the Microsoft technology, platform, and tools offerings. It enables developers to experience the upcoming tool improvements. This release is also specially targeted for the developers who have been using Web Deployment Projects with Visual Studio 2005 and would like to use the functionality with Visual Studio 2008.
This CTP release is available in English only.
