PDC 2008 Experience: Day 2: Keynote = 1 on Windows 7

Introduce Windows 7 Client

  • Taskbar now has thumbnails
  • Each application has it's own most recently used list called jump list
  • Windows can be docked to side, kind of the old MDI interface
  • User has control of the Notification area icons. What gets displayed, the ordered of the icons.

Windows Explorer

  • Search has highlighting of the words found

Windows Homegroup

  • Classify what on your network people can see.
  • Search across multiply pcs in the home group for content.
  • Can send content from one device to another like from PC to play on your stereo system or home theatre.
  • All of the devices that are seen in the homegroup, you will have access to all devices.  Windows will automatically switch between home printer and office printer.

Window Touch computing

  • Mouse commands have been refactored to allow for  "Surface" like UI, stretching and resizing.
  • On screen keyboard supported predictive text.
