Windows Server 2003 Feature Packs and Tools

Sam points to a page containing a (the?) list of feature packs and tools for Windows Server 2003.  Very handy.

IntelliCSharp

Heck.  Yea.

The honorable Mr. Fowler notes that JetBrains has announced that it is working on a plugin to VS.NET.  This is fantastic.  I've read great things about IntelliJ; hopefully they'll fill some of the holes in VS.NET.

I rescind the comment from my previous post.  This is the most exciting news of the day!

Most exciting news of the day

There's been a surprising lack of information (relatively) about performance in .NET, especially considering how long it's been out.  The CLR perf team now has a page on GDN and they claim it will be updated regularly.  Rejoice!

Unfortunately, like many other interesting areas on GDN, there is no RSS feed.  I guarantee that by tomorrow I'll forget this page exists.  Maybe it's time to try to figure out how to subscribe to web pages in IE...

Windows Tips and Tricks

I subscribe to a lot of email newsletters.  Most of them are fair to mediocre, but one of them really stands out as an interesting read every time:  Windows & .NET Magazine's Windows Tips and Tricks.  It's an FAQ-style email that's sent once a week or so and the topics are all over the place.  There's almost always at least one thing I find interesting.  This week's topics include:

  • Why do I receive a file-copy error when I perform an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2003?
  • Why does my Windows XP machine's CPU usage climb to 100 percent when I right-click a file or folder within Windows Explorer?
  • Why does the Advanced Power Management (APM) tab appear in the Control Panel Power Options applet on only some of my machines?
  • Where can I get the Windows Server 2003 domain rename tool?
  • How can I add a user to Active Directory (AD) from the command line without using a script?
  • How can I remove a user from Active Directory (AD) from the command line without using a script?

Subscription details are here.  Enjoy!
