Looking for a good, cheap ASP.NET host/provider

Anyone in love with their web host?

My email has been down for over five hours -- and this isn't the first time. I've been having all kinds of trouble with WebHost4Life the past couple months and need to drop them pronto.

I'm looking for ASP.NET, SQL Server, FTP and Email. Any referrals are greatly appreciated!

This question was asked a couple weeks ago on the aspnet newsgroup and a handful of people suggested discountasp.net to the person who asked, don't have any experience with it, but thought I'd pass it on. Two of the people who recommended it were Steve Orr and Scott Allen

I use both ServerIntellect, formerly EAServe (www.serverintellect.com) and DiscountASP.net (www.discountasp.net) and they've both been great. EAServe even gives me 2 SQL databases. And the prices are very good.

I've been happy with webhost4life. I haven't had a production site there, but the e-mail seems to be working fine, and I get ASP.Net 1.1, 2 SQL Server databases, and 600 MB for $9.95/month.

Here's another plug for DiscountASP.Net... we've had really great service from them, and I can't remember a time that they were down.

Not the cheapest kid on the block but still very reasonable. Never had any problems with them and I've used them for almost a full year.

I am currently on WebHost4Life as well and have noticed where I couldn't get my email or hit my site for a few minutes at a time... but for $10/mo it couldn't be beat.

I used to be with CrystalTech... and if I got fed up with WebHost4Life, I'd jump back to CT. You always have the latest and greatest, as well as very fast and responsive servers. I left because I couldn't get up and running with SQL for an inexpensive price.

I also vote for CrystalTech. I have used them for over 3 years. Shared hosting is shared hosting and you get what you pay for. I tihnk I have only had down time (that I know of) maybe once in the last 3 years

I'll also shill for webhost4life. great service so far, technical staff is extremely helpful...unlimited domains, asp.net, sql server, the whole nine yards, very inexpensive.

Stay away from brinkster. Their tech staff are idiots, lots of downtime, too many restrictions on what you can and cannot do. I'm going to be moving my blog from my brinkster account to my webhost4life account when I get the time to migrate it and just leave brinkster dormant until my year runs out.

I used M6.net and TopHosting.com before switching to WebHost4Life.com -- and I would still recommend either. I've found far more options with WH4L, and they're always keeping up with the latest, which is why I moved to them. I've found the service and support at WH4L great, but I would recommend either of the others listed if they haven't worked for you.

Have you called in to their tech support yet? I've found them very responsive and the one time I had problems with email, they moved me to the 'new' system and haven't had a serious problem since.

I think it's worth giving them an other chance. They've made me happy several times.

I've been using WebHost4Life for a couple years now with barely any problems. I think they just avoid bigger city support like Chicago and aim to support those in the smaller more numerable cities like Fort Wayne.

Yep, I think that's it. Sorry Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

I would have to recommend that you do not sign up with DiscountASP.net (DASP) if you are looking for reliable email. I currently have 2 clients hosted with them. Both clients have been hosted with DASP for about a year and a half. Almost every couple of months there are problems with their email hosting. About three weeks ago, they were down for at least 5 hours.

I could live with this if it was just me, but I have paying clients that almost immediately phone me when the email goes down. Then, to add insult to injury, the only way to get support from DASP is by filling out a form on their site and then subsequently emailing back and forth with their tech support. There is no phone number to call. It is an email support only type of thing and if their email goes down, you feel kind-of helpless.

Well, on the last occasion - as on every occasion – I filled out the silly little form as soon as I knew there was a problem. Other than an auto responder, I had no idea if they had even received my support ticket for about 3 hours. Since my clients are looking to me for answers, all I could tell them was that “the host is having problems and I sent in a support ticket”. I would have felt so much more at ease if I could have heard a technician on the other end of the phone at least acknowledging the issue. Eventually they did post an acknowledgement on their site, but as you can see here - http://community.discountasp.net/default.aspx?f=15&m=5220 - even that took a few hours.

I just moved my own site away from DASP and on to CrystalTech. The prices are very competitive and in most cases you actually get a lot more for your money at CrystalTech. I have only been with them for a couple of weeks, so I can’t remark on reliability yet. However I can say that my web site is a bit snappier with them and their control panel is far better than DASP. Plus I have read that it is written in .NET – which makes me like them even more. And they actually clearly publish their phone number on the top banner on their web site. Wow! Very refreshing.

If all goes well with CrystalTech in the next couple of months, I will be migrating my client sites there too. Sorry for the long verbiage, but I thought it was relevant to your situation. Good luck with your change!

i've been using redfox hosting (formerly cheap unlimited hosting...) for a while now. As their name indicates, they are really cheap. Haven't had any problems for around a year now. Got my hosting package through the UK ebay site so cost me around 12GBP (thats 20 us moolahs methinks) for a year for 2 SQL dbs, 500mb of space unlimited emails etc asp.net php etc. They are a UK outfit though so dunno if it suits you...

Hey Jeff. I run a few dedicated servers which I have a control panel set up on. I run windows server 2003 and version 2 of the dot net framework. I server up on IIS6, and ASP.NET is installed. Both boxes are barely used, and go up to 10mbits / sec. You can check out basic info about my servers and uptime at http://move-media.com/health.php

I offer 1GB of space, and 15GB of transfer per month for only $5. Plus, I'm a little guy. If you need something custom installed, just send me an email and we can work something out.

Shoot me an email or IM if you like :) Contact info is on my site.

I also would recommend www.serverintellect.com, I've been with them for nearly a year now. Great service, and tech support that is timely AND empowered to make the changes you need themselves (not 6 levels up the line).

I had the same trouble with WebHost4Life and recently switched to Fluidhosting.com. Although I see that it looks like you've already switched, if anyone else out there is looking, I'd recommend Fluidhosting.com. They have great service, and with the Fall special they are running, it's almost as inexpensive and WH4L.

We're using EasyCGI.com for our blogs at www.bloggingabout.net

It's $27 or so per month, 6GB space, 150GB bandwith, unlimited (pop) email, 50 FTP accounts and pretty fast responses from helpdesk. Pretty fast, because I post from Europe and it probably takes a while for USA to get up from bed! ;)

I've used boundgrid.net quite a bit, the nicest thing about them is that you can host unlimited domains on your account, (they all share the same bandwith and diskspace quotas). I have an ASP.NET with SQL Server account for $9.99 / month.
