Blog Spam

I've had to implement a few measures to stave off blog spammers (trying to advertise everything from viagra to online casinos). I've been reading up on this phenomenon and it's a real epidemic. Feel free to continue commenting on my blog site - just be aware that your comment may not appear on the blog post right away.

In the past month I have received pver 30,000 spam messages. So many that I can no longer approve the legitimate comments. Therefore I simply disabled comments from my weblog until I get something straightened out.

Trackbacks have also become a problem - particularly with the subject matter of most of the sites that have been sending the bogus trackbacks. What's even worse is that I cannot disable trackbacks globally using my current publishing system so I therefore have to go back and manually disable the feature on the 380 posts I have made to my weblog. Otherwise I just have to delete 200-300 bogus trackbacks a day. Very frustrating!
