What happened to the .net CPU?

I've been searching around and for the life of me I cannot find any information on what happened to .netcpu, the guys that were gonna make the CPU with .net embedded. A few people got dev kits but then ... <crickets>

Anyone got any idea what happened to this idea? Seemed like a good idea, having the the runtime embedded. I'd certainly wouldn't mind working with .net (even if it's a bastard version) on light-weight hardware.

People figured it was better to leverage general purpose CPUs than try and create purpose-built ones. See: http://www.interact-sw.co.uk/iangblog/2004/08/12/novminsilicon

Thanks for the heads up. It does make more sense to have a generic CPU. But all that hype then *poof* gone. Just like the CPUs that would run Java.
