Restless C#ding

Whidbey - Hosed

Whidbey finally gave up on my machine. All of the controls in the toolbox are greyed out, but I can copy controls from other forms onto the form I'm working on.  The properties dialog also is non-functional (greyed out). On the plus side, I'll get to test out the “Restore installation to its initial state” feature in Whidbey.  I'll update this post with the results of the attempted repair.

Update - It turns out this was due to “VSCorePackage” getting corrupted. Restoring Whidbey helped a bit, but it's still acting a little odd. It looks like “devenv /resetskippkgs” might have saved me the trouble though.

It might be your project or solution file. After getting these same types of errors, I created a new project, then copied items into it and voila! No more errors! For nearly a day!

(not that I'm complaining about it - give me more alphas!)

yes, what Philip is saying is also evidenced ini this blog (see the comments) from Clemens Vasters http://staff.newtelligence.net/clemensv/PermaLink.aspx?guid=3fc6b7ee-e292-4fd0-aa22-c95aa2dba9fc

Very interesting...Thanks for the responses! I had figured it was the solution, not the project. Now I just have to narrow it down. The odd thing is that everything still will compile and run correctly, it's just the designer that's broken.

This part of being involved in the development process is why I enjoy alphas/betas. :)

I had the same problem ....
reinstalled the whidbey ...
opened the same solution ...
got the error message again (where it is said that the devenv "/resetskippkgs" is the solution) ...
searched the web for "/resetskippkgs" and came on this blog ...

It's a mad mad world ....

Hrm how inconvenient. Does anyone know exactly what causes it? i.e., what to add/remove from the project file? It's started popping up on 5 of my projects in my solution - sometimes it doesn't have any affect at all, other times it gimps the IDE - no 'Properties' panel is the most annoying one so far, as are the lockups.
