My Semantic Analyser Isn't Cutting It
15 September 03 05:09 PM | Joel Semeniuk | 1 comment(s)

I need to find some new semantic analysis software - something capable of extracting context from text. I'm looking for some type of component that I can provide a chunk of text, possibly some historic context (e.g. them = "Bob, Bill, Doug") and have it spit out significant context (or whatever) from the text…

Eg: Text: "Why do dogs have four legs instead of 5?"

Results:

   Question; Dogs;  Legs;  4 Legs; 5 Legs;

 Something like that… or…

Text: "I'm going to get them to use .NET if it's the last thing I do"

Context In: “I'm = Joel; I = Joel; Them = ABC Corp.; Thing = Action;”

Personality Test

I first started thinking about after reading Duncan's blog. Turns out I'm an ENFJ - a "Teacher". Nice

A couple of my employees ran through the same test coming up with different trait summaries that seemed to define them really well. After reading a couple, I thought "Damn - that explains a lot". This got me thinking - I wonder if anyone has correlated these personality types with roles and responsibilities on a software development project. Do you need to have a couple ENTJ's to drive the project, sprinkled with a few masterminds, some IJNT's in the mix? I would be interested in matching these personality types with roles and responsibilities within an organization and on teams....Might make hiring easier " Sorry, ENTJ's need not to apply" type of thing.

Jabber

K - decided to check out what all the fuss is about...Seems fun... I've tried three different clients already - and I'm not really happy with any of them yet... I've tried:

JAJC

PSI

TipicIM

They all worked...but they seemed...well...like they were in beta (which they were I guess). Looking for a really great Jabber client...taking suggestions. Has a Jabber client been written in .NET?

Going to PDC and I'm Gonna Blog About It!!!

Well...haven't blogged in a while. Summer is no time for blogging. Summer is over, however (not officially, but close enough) - so it's time again. I've been asked to blog about PDC - sure, why not! I'm no where near the first and of course it would be a whole lot better if I was presenting (maybe next year - I guess I need to write another book or two) - but I'll give it a go. Stay tuned PDC Bloggershttp://pdcbloggers.net/ I'm going to Momentum as well - I guess I could blog about that as well.
