Imagine Cup

I’m going to be a judge at Imagine Cup in Sao Paulo, Brazil next month.  I’m pumped.  I’ve never been to Brazil.  Looking at my schedule, it doesn’t really allow me any time (like, not even 5 min) to be a tourist… oh well.  Has anyone been there before?

Congrats Joel! Have a great time...it will be a fantastic opportunity for you. And I hear the food's really good. ;-)

I'm from Brazil. São Paulo is a giant city, but does not have the natural beauty that you'd find in Rio, or Florianópolis, for examplo.

You say you won't have time to be a tourist, so I can just recommend you a barbecue. There's a lot of good places there where you can go and eat the most wonderful barbecue of your life. No kidding. George Foreman said in an interview that the most wonderful thing he found in Brazil was our barbecues. :-).

And if you have the time, go to some club, at Vila Olímpia. Brazillian girls LOVE foreign guys.

Hi, I'm from São Paulo, too. I'm reading your blog for quite some time.
You're going to come here in winter, so don't forget some warm clothes.
As Ricardo suggested, try our barbecue houses, we call them "churrascarias" - most in an all you can eat ("rodízio") format. At night, you can also try our Italian neighborhood, "Bexiga", it's a very happy place, there.
If you want a classy (and reasonably expensive) meal, try "Terraço Itália", the tallest building in São Paulo, with a great view of the city. The restaurant there is terrific, too.
If you like strong drinks, try a "caipirinha". It's made from lemon, sugar and cachaça. Some use vodka on it.
It's a huge city, some call it a New York wannabe, but I love it. It doesn't matter what your interests are (night life, arts, food, drinks, etc), you can find it here.
We're located around 60 miles from the beach, but you said you don't have plenty of time for tourist activities, and it will probably be too cold for a bath.
