The art of re-coding

As I have been very busy with real work, I have not had much time to blog. Well not about important stuff any way. I've spent the last few months updating and bug fixing some of my early .Net code. I hate doing that. Absolutely with out a doubt hate it. In the past year & a half I've learned so much from when I first started this project that it is hard for me to not start tearing apart my old stuff and updating and moving bits around. I've had to, on a bunch of different times, stop from rewriting large chunks of the system due to time constraints and just the simple fact that it works fine now. I finally wrapped everything up and finished somewhat ahead of schedule but as I selected Release configuration and hit compile I felt my heart drop and lonely feeling wash over me, though this could have been breakfast saying hello. There was just so much more I could have done, so many other things that could have been pruned and cleaned. Ah well! New project ahoy! I know that I will be visiting this code again for the next release (trying to really hold off until Whidbey is released ; ) ) and will most likely want to change all the stuff I didn't get todo this go around.
Am I the only one that feels this way? I think not.
