V-World Wendesday Workout, aka The Traversal climber is going to get donkey kicked.

Okay, for those unfamiliar with bouldering, there are many different types of problems to work on.  Generally a marked problem on the wall is going to be for strength or technique.  These consist of about 5-10 moves and allow various types of foot usage (all for feet, english, and texture).  Other climbers are going more for endurance or are doing warm-up routes.  These routes generally have 10+ moves and allow all for feet (normally).  In general warm-up routes and endurance traversals allow the user to hold a particular grip or position for as long as necessary to stretch out or chalk up, while the boulder problems tend to deny you this ability.

Now, my largest pet peave is quickly becoming the traversal climber crossing a route.  Being that the traversal route is a horizontal route, it generally crosses most of the problems in the gym, so you have to learn to be courteous to people doing problems (and vice versa).  However, most traversal climbers are completely oblivious.  This kind of sucks because it means some people climbing some hard routes are having to jump down in the middle to let the traversal climber through.

Well no more friend.  I wound up jumping off a route 4 times today that I could have completed the first time because of a traversal climber getting in my way.  From now on I'm just going to drop on them if I happen to fall, so they better get the hell out of the way.

Little kids are even worse, since they'll just randomly jump on a wall, including the wall you are on, right underneath of you if they see fit.  Now I have a much harder time drop kicking a child.  So I won't be saying bombs away when the kids are in the house, but I'm thinking they should be taught some climbing etiquette.  Normally this should come from the parent, but with more and more parents using the climbing gym as a babysitter, I don't think this is going to be the case.

Fortunately, I'm over my V2 block I think.  I've hit or come close to hitting a number of V2's now, and I have a couple of V3's lined up to tackle.  Unfortunately for me, the V3's are in short supply, so I'll really have to focus my attention on the few available.  Most of the time the V3's that are up don't play into my climbing style, so that is something I'll have to work on.
