Trackbacks and the Community Starter Kit

I have a team of 4 people putting together the specs for the Community Starter Kit 2.0.  One of the things we are discussing is Trackbacks.  I would love to get feedback from people on how useful Trackbacks would be in a Portal/CMS type application.

Some of the things we are thinking it would be useful for:

  • Person A writes an article on a CSK 2.0 site
  • Person B writes a Blog entry referencing that article
  • Anyone visitng the CSK 2.0 site who reads this article also has available a set of links to other sites that reference this article.

We could also do this with downloads, links, books and a plethera of other site content items.

I think that'd be a very cool feature, with a lot of potential use. However, I implemented a trackback system for a college newspaper site I worked on, and I'm pretty sure it's never been used. However, I hope that as blogging increases in popularity, that features that help link blogs to other sites will become more used.

Nice to have feature :) Could you share more about this CSK 2.0 project, including the new features and a macroscopic roadmap? Do you have plans for taking user's feedback about the users TOP 10 most wanted features?

I would like to also discuss implementing ESS (www.esfstandard.org) into the CSK. Please email me to discuss more options.
