Over the past couple years, I have found myself uttering those words. Why? Because .NET software development is evolving so quickly that it can seem like it's impossible to catch up. I'm not alone. Many developers I have talked to have expressed similar concerns. The speed of advancements can seem intimidating.

The good news is, it's not that bad.

Whenever technology is advancing, people get excited. And when people get excited, they talk about it and write about it. This is especially true with .NET. The problem is that there is so much information flowing so quickly from so many sources that it can really be overwhelming. The solution is to find a small set of focused information that will get you up to speed. Once you accomplish that, you will understand things better and all the excitement and noise from blogs such as mine won't overwhelm you. You will know which areas you want to explore, and thus can do targeted searches for the topics that you really want to dive deep on.

I would like to recommend the following Microsoft white papers written by the talented David Chappell. They will give you all the information you need on the .NET Framework 3.5 so that you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

I hope this information is helpful to you - it sure helped me!

It's a Great New Year for ASP.NET

Before I kick off my inaugural blog post, I would like to say hello to the great ASP.NET community and thank Joe Stagner for getting this blog setup!

For those who don't know me (mostly everyone), my name is Keith Harvey and I have been doing software development and architecture for over 20 years. I gravitated to Microsoft technologies in the early days of the company and haven't looked back.

Each year Microsoft has brought the development community more reasons to be excited about writing code, architecting systems and delivering solutions. This year is even better with the release of the .NET Framework 3.5 and the Visual Studio 2008 suite of tools. It's an exciting time to be a Microsoft-focused developer - with .NET gaining more and more share of the enterprise application platform space across all sectors of business - public and private. That's fancy-talk for more cool opportunities for all of us!

Over this coming year I hope to share useful information and tips about ASP.NET, design, usability and any other topics that come to mind.

It's definitely a great new year for ASP.NET!
