Thanks MS, for Lookout and a Sense of Humour

A while back, I remarked on the new openness we're seeing at Microsoft thanks to the weblogs of its developers, testers and writers. In addition to the valuable technical information, this trend exposes the human face of the corporation. Yes, Microsoft is a collection of real people with human traits - including a sense of humour.

For example, I just ran across this interesting tidbit at the download site for Lookout:

“You can use Lookout to search your:

  • Email messages
  • Contacts, calendar, notes, tasks, etc.
  • Data from exchange, POP, IMAP, PST files, Public Folders
  • Files on your computer or other computers
  • ... Very soul (okay, not true)

The writer also has his/her own user-friendly version of the usual legalistic disclaimer:

“You are welcome to use use the product, but Microsoft cannot guarantee that we'll be able to fix all issues or even respond to all requests. If this all sounds reasonable to you, please download Lookout and use it as you wish!

While it's easy to get carried away with unbusiness-like humour, it is always refreshing to reaffirm that work can be fun - no matter what the size of the company.
