Using the VWDE Editor in VS 2003
As you know, you can edit your code in most any text editor. That includes Visual Web Developer Express. VWDE not only leaves your formatting intact, it gives you HTML IntelliSense and syntax checking.
- Download a free copy of Visual Web Developer Express and install it.
- Open your VS 2003 Web project.
- In Solution Explorer, right click on an .aspx file and choose Open With.
- Add Visual Web Developer Express (browse to it) as a new editor and you're set.
- Don't expect to drag and drop controls onto the page. The editor isn't compatible with your 1.1 code behind.
- Although it's usually safe to view an HTML page in VWDE's Design view, stick to Source view for editing.
- When the VWDE syntax checker complains about the reference to the code behind file, resist the urge to do what it says.
