MapPoint 2006 North America and Streets & Trips
Microsoft's Team MapPoint just sent a copy of the new version of MapPoint 2006 North America that they released on May first. I'd never seen MapPoint before, but when I installed this 2006 version, I had to check that I hadn't launched Streets & Trips 2006. They're so similar that I already know how to use many of MapPoint's features.
MapPoint has adopted the GPS Task Pane that we used extensively in our recent cross-Canada trek from our winter place in Victoria, BC back here to our permanent home in Nipissing Township, Ontario. Thanks to the GPS functionality, we always knew exactly where we were and how far from our destination and how high up (important in the Rockies).
Here's a shot of the RV console as we drove:
We wouldn't do a trip without the Route Planner and the Driving Guidance functions. The latter reads directions out loud. The voice made us laugh at times: Once, as we rolled along the Trans Canada highway, she advised (without breaking up), "In 215.5 kilometres, keep right." Whenever we pulled the RV over for a roadside break we found ourselves simultaneously responding with "Shut Up!" and "We know!" when the friendly voice nagged, "Off Route!"
