September 2004 - Posts

Little problem with WebMail!, big problem with GDN workspaces.

There is a bug in WebMail! RTM that block the program if it wasn't upgraded from a previous version.

I fixed the bug but GDN block every new release that I'm trying to post.

So if you want to test it and you have the problem, please contact me via this blog that I'll send to you...

Until this problem with GDN will be fixed...

Update: now everything seems working...

Please remove the 1.0 RTM and install the 1.0 RTM Fix1

WebMail! 1.0.12 RTM released!

You can find it here on the Workspace, with the full sources in VB.NET.

The latest version includes Genghis for the SplashScreen and the AboutBox, but I plan to include a lot of other functionalities from this powerful library.

Check it if you need a mail notifier for Outlook Web Access 2003 (OWA) or SquirrelMail.

Problems with GDN Workspaces Windows Forms Control on .NET Fx 1.1 SP1

It seems to me that the Windows Forms Control to handle the source control on GDN Workspaces is not working with .NET FX 1.1 SP1

I continue to receive automation errors. The FAQ says that it's a problem with a prerelease of .NET 2.0 that I don't have.

I think that the problem is the SP1 of .NET FX. Do you have the same problem?

I also tried other solutions, like the http://workspaces.gotdotnet.com/wksalone standalone tool, but I receive an HTTP 500 (Internal Server Error) when I try to log in.

I also have a lot of problems with passport. I've to close the browser a lot of times and to clear cookies, but a lot of times this doesn't work also...

I really want to use workspaces, but I'm not able to...

Nice utilities: UrlRun and UrlRunAddIn

Two variations of the same (very very useful ) utility:

Chris Sells's UrlRun utility:

This is a little console app that I use to reconnect URLs split between lines in an email. It's smart enough to take out spaces and > characters when an URL is split between forward lines in an email. To use, copy the URL (with spaces and weird characters and all) into the clipboard and run UrlRun.exe. It will take the URL out of the clipboard, clean it up and start up IE.

UrlRun Outlook AddIn:

This add-in works only with plain text messages - which account for the lion's share of URL problems in Outlook.

This add-in will not work with Outlook Express.

WebMail! 1.0.10 Release Candidate 0 released

It's in the Workspace... if it's working again...

Here is the complete list of features:

  • Periodical check of unread emails in OWA2003 (Outlook Web Access) and SquirrelMail INBOXs
  • Opens WebMail interface with automatic login with a simple double click or from a menu
  • Multiple accounts at the same time
  • Online documentation
  • VB.NET sources available under the CPL (Common Public License)

The final 1.0 version will contain only eventual bug fixes and will be released in some days.

When the GDN workspace will start working again (completely) I'll post the source code under source control, but now you can download from a ZIP file.

Future developments include:

  • Optional parameter support (Public/Private Computer in OWA2003 for example)
  • Other WebMails (corporate and web)
  • SMTP support to use WebMail to send emails
  • POP 3 support

WebMail! 1.0.6 with full OWA2003 & SquirrelMail unread count support

Tonight I've released a new version with sources.

I fixed some of the bugs of the previous version and completed the check of unread mails in the Inbox of OWA2003 and SquirrelMail.

The program doesn't crash anymore (I hope) if the network connection is not available.

The sources are downloadable.

You can find everything on the WebMail! workspace!

Can MSF be used in connection with Java development?

Sometimes I receive this question, and this mornig I found it on the public MSF newsgroup.

The answer is... YES!

There is nothing in MSF 3.0 that prevents you to use it with whichever language you want, you can use it with every tool, every IDE, every environment...

At the end MSF 3.0 is a collection of best practices, models, disciplines, supported by a series of templates, that you can customize without limits.

I don't know if this will be true for MSF 4.0, it's too early, but I think that you will be able to use it, also without buying Visual Studio Team System.

The tool will help, but at the end a framework is a framework...

MSF (3 and 4 ) resource lists are still popular after months...

Today I checked the page views for the MSF Resource lists:

I'm very happy about that, considering that I'm constantly updating them .

If you know items that should be added, please leave me a comment here, because I cannot reopen the posts on the original articles .

New look for this blog...

I messed a little with CSS and I aligned the look & feel of this blog with my other blog: www.geniodelmale.info that means "evil genius" in italian...

Now if I could only find an image with a hand that is catching the world

WebMail! 1.0.4 with full OWA 2003 unread mail in Inbox support

A new version of WebMail! is released today.

I've removed the old releases.

Thanks to all the people that have downloaded it and sent me feedback.

As usual you can find everything here on the GDN workspace.
