Yes, you can add games to your Zune right now!
Although this is not really a public feature yet… it is more for XNA developers to test their games.
!!This is not a supported scenario yet!!
So by installing XNA Game Studio and Visual C# 2008 Express (both free) you can deploy some games to your Zune, this will add a “Games” entry in the main menu.
As you can see Games can take advantage of the wide screen (horizontal display).
I made it work for me, but I won’t detail here as you can find the procedure there:

During my trips in West USA I have been twice in Yosemite National Park (California) and I loved it!
Today I am happy to experience that awesome Yosemite Extreme Panoramic Imaging Project made with Silverlight DeepZoom and 45 gigapixels of Yosemite views!
Can you find the hidden pic…?
They also have a Google Maps version, but you’ll find the Silverlight one far better…

Unlike beta 1, I am gladly surprised by this version!
IE8 really improve the way you browse the web.
The IE team seems to have listened to users more than usual, did a strong research on how people browse the web, and as a result worked a lot on user experience.
First we have a wonderful new tab experience. I am a really heavy tab user, usually after 5 minutes of surfing I have more than 25 tabs opened and my browser start to freeze (I have IE taking 400 MB of memory more than often).
- Related tabs are grouped by color, that means all the tabs opened from links on one tab are identified with the same color.
- Tabs are more isolated from each other so crashes won’t stop your browsing session anymore.
- You can reopen closed tabs, or even your entire last browsing session!
New tab menu:

IE8 also brings nice features I was waiting for (often copied from Firefox):
- Find as you type! at least!!!!! I use it every time so I had to install an addin before.
- The Search bar also search in your favorites (and history and feeds).
I won’t detail but you will also find other features to make your daily browsing more efficient, like Web Slices and Accelerators (new name for Activities).
After MIX conference my advice to people was to install the beta 1 in a VPC only because it was developers oriented only and not very user friendly. After a few hours I can tell that IE8 beta 2 is safe ton install on your machine. For those who wonder, beta 2 is much more responsive than beta 1, which is not difficult..
Can’t wait for the final version!
The Montreal .NET User Group has a new name (Formerly GUVSM: Groupe d'usagers Visual Studio Montréal), it is now the Montreal .NET Community (Communauté .NET Montréal) with a broader range of activities.
We have new stuff this year:
Each month we will host a new type of meeting at lunch time: it is called @Lunch and the goal is to be like Alt.NET discussions and Open Space sessions which involve users participation.
Check out the new site here:
For now my main resource to learn Silverlight is the official portal: www.silverlight.net
You won’t find any better resource on the web, this is a dream website where you can find everything you need to train yourself on Silverlight:
- Download links
- Controls gallery
- Incredible “How Do I?” videos
- Great Tutorials
- The best Silverlight Forum on earth
- Wonderful Showcase
- Latest blog post from industry experts
- … and so much more!
This is truly the one and only website you first want to visit to learn Silverlight… but recently I found www.silverlightshow.net which surprised me for having great articles. In fact it is something missing in silverlight.net. They have some exclusive content, and they also gather and categorize articles from the community. What I particularly like is the fact that articles and sample code are updated for each Silverlight version change.
For now it is hard to find a specific article, but I am sure they will improve that soon. SilverlightShow also have other interesting resources, such as Jobs and Events sections.

Visual Studio 2008 SP1 is available and as always you might wonder if your Silverlight 2 projects will work after this update!
Good news Silverlight Tools Beta 2 has been updated to support Visual Studio 2008 SP1!
Beware that some pre-release programs and updates (like Microsoft Silverlight Tools Beta 1) will prevent Visual Studio 2008 SP1 from installing successfully.
So here are the steps:
- Install Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack Preparation Tool
- Install Visual Studio 2008 SP1
- Install Microsoft Silverlight Tools Beta 2 for Visual Studio 2008
Also beware that the updated Silverlight library for ADO.NET Data Services is not compatible with the RTM of .NET 3.5 SP1's version of ADO.NET Data Services. [source: VS 2008 SP1 RTM + Silverlight 2 Beta 2 == No ADO.NET Data Services]
So if you want to use ADO.NET Data Services with Silverlight, wait for Silverlight 2 RTM before installing VS2008 SP1!
