VSTO2 - Wow!

Yesterday I watched this webcast about the Visual Studio Tools for Office V2 (actually it's called now, surprisingly enough, VSTO 2005).

I must say I didn't like the VSTO v1. The smart documents API is very restrictive, and the fact that one must implements more than 20 (!) methods in order to create even the simplest SD is quite annoying. There was a need for a change, no doubt.

Well, here we go. Looks like the new VSTO2 delivers all the goodies I missed in the first version. The two features I like the most are definitely the ability to add custom controls to the task pane (now called action pane) and the ability to display the word doc or excel sheet in the VS.NET designer.

Looks like the guys in the VSTO team did a really good job.

One piece of info I looked for but couldn't find it is - how can I donwload the new version? Is there any public alpha / beta / preview etc. available? If you know about it - please drop me a line.
