AJAX Community (focus on .NET)

Yesterday on the launch event of Visual Studio .NET 2005 and SQL Server 2005 in Karlsruhe/Germany we had the idea to create a usergroup/community here in Germany for all Web 2.0 and AJAX developers. If you are interessted in joining such a group please write me a short email or use the contact form at this web site.

The idea is to create web sample applications that will help us to create AJAX and Web 2.0 web sites. We will go in deep details for current frameworks like Ajax.NET Professional, ComfortASP, MagicAjax and, of course, Microsoft Atlas, see the pro and contras for each lib. Also we will have a look on existing prototype JavaScript libs that will offer Web 2.0 effects and methods.

Results of such meetings will be available as download and LiveMeetings (Webcasts) including chat session.

Update: Because of the big response we do not want to create a German-only community, more work will done online so that everyone is invited, thank you for your great feedback!

yea, there are too many out there atlas, ajax.net, anthem, ComfortASP, MagicAjax, etc.

it WOULD be great to find the best of each, reduce the redundencies, and focus on a core library. Then bring in the moo.fx's of the world as "references" to add the dhtml effects we all need.

The coupling between these frameworks and asp.net is the key feature developers need. anyone can grab the prototype library and start building ajax enabled UIs but combining that with the freatures of asp.net controls, events, etc is the real extra bonus I know I'm looking for and already find in the frameworks listed above. But having them in one framework would be ideal and increase dev time considerably, as well as support I assume.

so yes, this is a good idea if a consolidated library is something worth considering.

Hi Kevin,

this is exact what I'd like to do. Have a look on all frameworks available for .NET (and, of course others too), find all the pros and contras, build something like a reference functionality library and hope, Microsoft (Atlas) and other companies are using this to build great controls.

Michael,

I would love to join the proposed ajax community!

However, I am still confused about AjaxPro - is it open source? (You promised to put original source code of Ajax.NET Professional online more than two weeks ago)

Also we still need a complete example with documentation! Do you really feel you can tackle MORE work?

On the other side, I would love to help you with development. Maybe if you let more people help you, you can tackle this big problems.

Does .Net framework 2.0 (and Visual Studio 2005) make the Ajax development easier? ... as compared to .Net framework 1.1 (and Visual Studio 2003)?

Thanks.

No, I don't think so, you can do AJAX with ASP, PHP or whatever you want.

Hi Michael, if you have any details let me know please - I'm in the middle of preparing an article for ASPToday.com that looks at Atlas, Anthem.NET and your Ajax.NET Pro (installing, using, and comparing them). I would be interested in participating in the community you're proposing.
