Multiple virtual desktops?

I am looking for suggestions for some virtual desktop software. At work I am working on different projects and I have to change between them prety often. In the past I used terminal services to create a couple of desktops but I can't do that on my laptop. What program do you suggest?

Although I haven't used this plugin yet (I do intend to), I can say that Desktop Sidebar is an excellent utility that I can't do without now. From the looks of it this plugin would be a good addition and do what you require.

Try the Virtual Desktop Manager from the Windows XP Powertoys page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx)

I recommend the Windows XP Powertoys released by Microsoft... a little tool that permits you to have 4 virtual desktop easily reachable by clicking on the taskbar. I use it often on my laptop.

I've used Virtuawin for the last few years. It's really configurable, so you should be able to get the exact setup you want.

My pet peeve with virtual desktops in windows is that they re-arrange the order that you applications are displayed in the taskbar.

Are there any out there that don't do that?

I have used VERN for years. http://oneguycoding.com/vern/

It's been actively coded by a single guy for 8+ years and is cheap. To let you know how stable it is, I am using a really old version on XP, 1.7 build date July 1997, because it is the last version that supports mouse switching (gestures). You can have almost unlimited virtual desktop cells and doesn't rearrange your taskbar. There are probably newer VDM that are fancier but this old version does exactly what I want with minimal intrusion and just works.

Easy virtual desktop management along with a complete shell replacement. Why not just get rid of the desktop completely? I have.
