Microsoft Dynamics CRM and IE9 compatibility issues workaround
Hi,
If you are fan of trying Microsoft beta products like me, you would probably have already installed Internet Explorer 9 beta (IE9).
IE9 is pretty cool as far as you don't want it to use with Dynamics CRM web interface :p).
Dynamics CRM 4 throws errors when saving records, problems with lookups among other errors when running from IE9. Compatibility mode doesn't resolve the problem either.
Additionally, as stated in Dynamics CRM 2011 beta readme Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 beta is not supported with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.
What is more, Dynamics CRM isn't supported on other browsers like Firefox or Chrome, so, after frustration I guess your first attempt to make it work may be uninstalling IE9 and rolling back to IE8.
Well, the good news is that you do not need to do that! J. I am going to share the workaround I found:
- Do not uninstall IE 9.
- From IE 9 or other browser you may have (i.e. Firefox), go to Spoon Browser Sandbox page.
-
There (if you do not have it installed yet), you will need to install spoon plugin.
This plugin will let you run IE 8 (and all the other applications available through spoon) as if it were installed on your machine, without any setup need and for free!.
Picture 1 – Click on 'Install Spoon Plugin'
-
So, click on Install and run the setup.
Picture 2 - Run spoon plugin set up
-
After installed and refreshed your page, you will be able to click on the green power button to start the application, as shown below:
Picture 3 - Start Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) application from spoon
-
When button is pressed, spoon starts buffering so to load the application. First time this takes a while. Next times it's almost instantaneous!.
- Now, IE 8 is up and running. Just enter the URL of your Dynamics CRM implementation and this is going to work as usual. Enjoy it! J

Despite this is a workaround and involves installing a third party plugin, it definitely works and allows you to keep trying and enjoying IE9.
Hope you find this useful,
