Google this!

I have just realized the power of Google with weblogs!  The other day I was talking with Robert McLaws about blogging in general, and he told me that he blogs everything so that it can be searchable by Google.  Just provide the weblog name as a search context, followed by any keywords.

For example, recently I wrote a weblog about OOP.  So in Google, I would type this search:

Palermo4 OOP

Presto! My global search engine is already up and running (and fast too).  I am sure most bloggers already knew this.  However, that is not stopping me from writing this (Google-searchable) blog!  Thanks Robert…

I sure would be interested in knowing how many of you are currently using Google in this fashion…

  • I noticed Google picked up my blog in a short amount of time. The blog I created is one of my first real attempts at maintaining a site, and I was very surprised at how fast Google caught on.

I actually just blogged about some of my search returns in Google, and how I went about changing the title dynamically. I'll have to wait and see these results.

  • I do it all the time. It's a great use.

One thing I noticed is that some things aren't easily searchable, though. If you store your RSS in Outlook, for instance, you'll find that some things are easier to find locally, while others are easier to find on Google.

  • NP. That's why I prefix every weblog I have with "Robert McLaws" in the title. Google puts a priority on what's in the title tag, so that way I can control (to a degree) what comes up when someone Googles on my name.

  • I'm not really using it in that fasion. Just other fun ways :)

you can also search by doing site:weblogs.asp.net christoc what ever words...

  • It is also the same reason why I use the handle DonXML in everything I do, to make my stuff easy to find. It started with my desire to find my posts in Yahoo Groups, but works just as well with the rest of the web. The key is to use something unique, but also something that is easy to spell and remember.

  • I also found that google is fast to pick up content in the blog but someone on the Internet says that it will not count the blog content when computing the PageRank. Anyone has more idea ?
