I recently presented two talks at the Victoria .NET Developer’s Association. The first talk was an introduction to SQL Server Reporting Services 2008. The second talk was on the major improvements to Reporting Services in SQL Server 2008 and how to use the new features.

You can download both talks from http://www.deeptraining.com/litwin/.

Recently, I blogged about the Four Pillars of ASP.NET:

  1. ASP.NET Web Forms
  2. ASP.NET AJAX
  3. ASP.NET MVC
  4. Dynamic Data

Of course, there are other development strategies too which include:

  1. Silverlight
  2. WPF
  3. LAMP
  4. Java
  5. Ruby
  6. VB 6
  7. Microsoft Access
  8. etc….

You may also have noticed my blog entry about my Ride to Conquer Cancer.

Well somehow I have come up with a way to put the two together. And, of course, it’s for a great cause: curing cancer!

So here’s the basic deal: you are most likely passionate about one of the above development strategies. For me, it’s still ASP.NET Web Forms but for you it’s likely something else. At the same time, I’d like to raise a ton of money for cancer research. So here’s how you get to promote your development platform of choice—your dev pillar—and help a good cause at the same time:

  1. Go to my Ride to Conquer Cancer Sponsor Page and donate for the cause.
  2. When it asks for your message text, add something that promotes your developer passion—your pillar of choice—in parentheses at the end of the personal note text. For example, “(ASP.NET MVC)” or “(Ruby on Rails)”.

When the ride is over, I will post the final results of the contest and tell you how the various pillars did. So, promote your developer passion and feel good at the same time. And help conquer cancer!

And when you make that pledge (please), don't forget to include your developer passion as part of the personal note.

Thanks,
Paul
